Dr Beatriz de los Arcos

Research Associate

I am a researcher on the Open Education Research Hub, an umbrella project that allows me to work in different areas and in different capacities. At present I lead the evaluation of the Hewlett-funded UK Open Textbooks Project, assessing the viability of US models of open textbook adoption in UK HE institutions. I am also Program Lead of the Global OER Graduate Network, a network of PhD researchers conducting their studies on open education.

I regularly contribute to other areas of the university, in particular course production, postgraduate supervision and staff training.

I am a member of the Advisory Board of the Open Education Working Group.

I have a background in languages and technology, and have taught on all Spanish modules at the Open University.

Bea de los Arcos is a researcher on the Hewlett-funded Open Education Research Hub Project, and Program Lead of the Global OER Graduate Network (GO-GN), a network of PhD candidates around the world who are conducting their doctoral research on an aspect of open education.

She is currently involved in the EU-funded bizMOOC Project, and the UK Open Textbooks Project.

Previous projects included the Open Educational Practices in Scotland (OEPS) Project, where she conducted research into OEP, drawing case studies of best practice and delivering workshops to raise awareness of open education in Scottish HE and FE institutions. As part of the EU-funded ExplOERer Project, she was tasked with the production of the open course "Learning to (Re)Use Open Educational Resources", which received an Open Education Award of Excellence in the category of Open MOOC. During phase 1 of the OER Research Hub project, she researched the impact of using open educational resources (OER) on teaching and learning in the K-12 context, and was in charge of overseeing the project's work on data management, data analysis and evaluation.

She is a member ofthe Advisory Board of the Open Education Working Group
