A good command of the local language is a vital element for social inclusion and integration of newcomers to a country. Mobile learning is an approach that offers new possibilities for informal, semi-structured language learning in the course of everyday life. This talk presents our projects with migrant learners and reports on their mobile learning experiences. It then goes on to reflect on other projects and the idea of integration. Finally it considers the changing role of teachers in the new language learning landscape which may involve designing for learning in class and in everyday activities beyond the classroom. The talk includes recommendations for learning design.
