I like telling stories but my prime interest lies in Learning Analytic and Educational Data Mining; both technical and pedagogical aspects. Currently, I am a PhD candidate at Institute of Educational Technology, The Open University. My research focuses on the role of geocultural background in MOOC learning. I am trying to explore how geocultural belonging impacts intertemporal choices. Also, if such intertemporal behavior is linked with the content, curriculum and/or learning design.
I obtained my master's degree in Computer Science and IT from the most prestigious engineering university in Pakistan; NED University of Engineering & Technology. Before that, I received a master's degree in Applied Physics from University of Karachi. I hold researcher and risk-analyst level expertise in data mining, statistical and stochastic data modelling and I am familiar with a variety of machine learning and statistical modelling tools. I also have experience in e-Learning development, training, support, and front- and back-end administration of enterprise-scale Learning Management Systems (Moodle and Sakai as primary tools).
Research interests: Socio-cultural influences on online learning, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), inclusive and diverse online learning environment, computer-supported collaborative learning.
Methods experiences: learning analytics (LA), Educational Data Mining (EDM), Educational Process Mining (EPM), Stochastic modelling, Social Network Analysis (SNA).
Her background is in Computer Science and Information Technology. She completed a masters degree in Computer Science and IT and holds another masters in Applied Physics. After completing her graduation, she started working in higher Education. She holds an extensive experience in undergraduate teaching and tutoring. With a technology background, and well-developed interest in Educational Sciences, she secured Leverhulme PhD Fellowship at Institute of Educational Technology, The Open University, UK. Currently, her research is focused on the role of Geo-Cultural background on intertemporal learning choices in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
