Science learning with Angry Birds

Mobile game applications and participation in science learning of pre-schoolers from disadvantaged backgrounds

-

The project examined the potential of game-based mobile applications to support science learning.

Overview

This project explored the potential of touchscreen mobile devices, in particular the mobile game application Angry Birds, to support scientific thinking of pre-schoolers from diverse backgrounds including the disadvantaged ones. In particular, it answered the following research questions (RQs):

  • RQ1: What are the children's preconceptions about projectile motion?
  • RQ2: How does playing the game affect scientific thinking and understanding of causal relationships about projectile motion?
  • RQ3: How does playing the game relate to children's educational potential (school performance)?
